What the map measures

The six views use the same country records as MilitaryDex rankings and profiles. Colors are recalculated for the selected measure and region, while the displayed value remains the underlying dataset value.

How to read the colors

Darker-to-lighter green indicates a lower-to-higher value within the active view. Inventory and budget measures use a logarithmic scale so one very large country does not flatten every other difference.

What it cannot predict

The map is a comparative reference, not a forecast of readiness, alliance support, geography, logistics or conflict outcomes. A higher inventory or score does not guarantee operational advantage.

Data and map sources

Military values come from the MilitaryDex 2026 country dataset and inherit its source limitations. Basemap geometry is generated from Natural Earth public-domain country boundaries at a pinned source revision. Boundary display is cartographic context and does not express a position on sovereignty or territorial disputes.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Which countries appear on the map?

The basemap shows world country boundaries. Military values and interactive profiles are available for the 145 countries in the current MilitaryDex dataset; other areas remain marked as no data.

Why does changing the region change the colors?

The map focuses on the selected region and recalculates its color scale against countries in that group. This makes regional differences visible without changing any country's underlying value.

Is the map a ranking of who would win a war?

No. It visualizes selected quantitative measures. It does not model readiness, command quality, geography, alliances, sustainment or possible conflict scenarios.
